Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh's Community Outreach Program Hosts Kennywood Picnic for More than 400 Kids and Families

WHO: More than 400 children and adults from Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh's Family Care Connection (FCC) Centers, located in Braddock, Mt. Oliver, Oakland, Rankin, Turtle Creek, Lawrenceville and Wilkinsburg.
WHAT: Children's is hosting a Kennywood "Back to School" picnic at no charge for families enrolled in its FCC Centers. The picnic will feature information booths families can visit to get to learn more about Children's programs including: Pittsburgh Poison Center, Injury Prevention, Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, Community Education and Sickle Cell.
After visiting the booths, families will enjoy a catered Kennywood lunch and then they are free to enjoy the park for the remainder of the day.
WHY: The Kennywood picnic is an example of the many activities and programs Children's FCC Centers offer to help strengthen families in underserved communities. The FCC Centers offer family support programming to enhance relationships between parents and their children; improve maternal and child health; provide health education and information; address school readiness through child development activities and assessments; and prevent child abuse and neglect.
Services provided by FCC Center staff include: nurse home visits; referrals for substance abuse prevention and treatment as well as mental health services; child development assessments; parenting education; and community building.

11 a.m.-Noon - Visit Children's educational booths
Noon-1 p.m.- Lunch and raffle
1-7 p.m.- Families are free to enjoy Kennywood attractions
