Generous Teen's Gift Helps Make Halloween a Treat for the Patients of Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, Pa. - October 26, 2005 -

 

WHO: The little ghouls and goblins hospitalized at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

WHAT: Children's will hold trick-or-treating for its patients on the afternoon of Halloween. More than 50 patients are expected to participate and will dress in their favorite costumes, visiting locations throughout the hospital in search of treats.

WHY: This year, they'll be getting special "treats," including hundreds of gifts donated through the generosity of a Bloomsburg, Pa., teenager named Justin Nester. Justin held a carnival in his hometown to raise approximately $3,000 to sponsor a Holiday of Hope Gift Bank Program at Children's through the Kids Wish Network. The Kids Wish Network is a nationally recognized charitable organization dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories and improving the quality of life for children.

Justin's donation was used to sponsor the shipment of $30,000 worth of toys, including stuffed animals, board games and video games, to Children's to begin a Gift Bank program. Ironically, as Justin was planning his carnival to support the gift bank at Children's, he was diagnosed with a juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma tumor and treated at a hospital near his home.
