CNS Tumor Treatment with AZD2171 - Phase I

AZD2171 for Treatment of Recurrent or Progressive Central Nervous System (CNS) Tumors in Children

Protocol Description

This Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium Phase I study involves an experimental drug called AZD2171, which has been shown to block the formation of new blood vessels that tumor cells need to grow and survive. By inhibiting angiogenesis, this drug may be useful in treating brain or spinal tumors. Researchers will measure the levels of certain cells and proteins in the blood and urine and relate them to how the tumor responds to the drug.

Eligibility Criteria

Patients of both genders up to age 21 who have been diagnosed with a recurrent or progressive brain or spinal cord tumor who have been unable to be cured by any known standard treatment will be asked to participate.
Males: Up to age 21
Females: Up to age 21

Requirements
Eligible patients will be given AZD2171 orally once a day continuously for up to 1 year.
Frequency of visits:  Weekly for 6 weeks, then monthly as needed
Duration: Up to 1 year

Status: Open for Enrollment
