Medicaid is Being Threatened
Please Urge Your Legislators to Fight Proposed Cuts
The Budget Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives has introduced a proposal for FY 2012 to slash funds to the Medicaid program. Severe cuts to this vital health care program may force Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC to turn its back on many of the children we serve by discontinuing certain services.
Essentially, the proposal calls for restructuring Medicaid as a “block grant,” capping the program and allowing the states to determine how to use the funds. Almost half the children treated at Children’s Hospital are Medicaid recipients. They will lose.
While we appreciate the difficult fiscal environment facing lawmakers at both the federal and state levels, we are concerned about the potential negative impact that this restructuring would have on pediatric health care.
Yes, there is room for improvement, but we cannot shortchange our children by slashing Medicaid in an attempt to reduce spending.
We need your help!
Please take a few minutes to contact your Senators and Representative to them know that cutting Medicaid funding will have a profoundly negative effect on the delivery of care to children.
Take Action! Fill out a short form and submit your e-mail. You may use our sample letter, or write your own. Your messages will be delivered to your elected officials.
With your help, we can ensure that the children of Pennsylvania have timely access to the health care they need.
