Biomarkers in Transplant Recipients

Protocol Description

This study is looking at the effect of immunosuppressive drugs on the lymphocyte function of children who receive all types of transplants. Through the study, researchers will analyze certain proteins called biomarkers, which are found in fluid and tissue samples. Data gathered in the study will help researchers quantify the effect of the drugs on cells that cause organ rejection. This will allow anti-rejection drugs to be administered in a way that is tailored to the needs of each child. Also, this research will assist in minimizing side effects of anti-rejection drugs and help ensure the greatest possible anti-rejection benefit with immunosuppressive drugs.

Eligibility Criteria

Male and female transplant recipients or transplant candidates of all ages are invited to participate in the program.
Boys: All ages
Girls: All ages

Requirements
Biological samples, such as blood, saliva, urine, stool, will be collected as part of normal clinical care for transplant. No separate procedures are required. Biopsies may be required in the case of liver or intestine transplants. If a biopsy is required as a part of standard clinical care, an extra piece of this biopsy may be collected for research purposes.
