Speakers’ Bureau
Children’s Hospital community educators are available to speak to your school, religious, community, youth, parent, or professional group. The Speakers’ Bureau offers presentations on many health, injury prevention, and parenting topics. Call Community Education at 412-692-7105 for more information on topics, fees, and scheduling.
Discovery, learning about health care and hospitals
The Discovery Program is available to groups of 10 or more in preschools, day care centers, primary grades, and community organizations. Children will learn about the positive aspects of hospitals and health care settings through a presentation using photographs, video, dolls, and safe medical supplies. Discovery enhances a child’s trust in health care providers and lessens their fears and misconceptions if they or a family member must be hospitalized. To schedule a Discovery Program visit for your school, call Community Education at 412-692-7105 for an application.
Hospital Tours
Having surgery or a special procedure can be a challenging experience for children and parents, so Children's offers weekly preadmission tours to help you prepare your child. The tours are conducted by a registered nurse or a child life specialist and help to take away the child's fear of the unknown. Children can have hands-on experience with medical equipment in a positive atmosphere. Brothers and sisters are also encouraged to attend. Registration is required by calling 412-692-6366.
