Dental Check-Ups
The proper care of your child’s teeth is important because of his heart problem. The mouth is an easy place for bacteria to enter the blood stream and cause bacterial endocarditis. Therefore, the development of cavities and other dental problems need to be avoided. We recommend that children older than three years of age see the dentist every year. If you cannot find a dentist who will treat your child because of his heart problem, the Dental Department at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh will provide excellent dental or referral services.
