Didactic Lectures
Educational Program in Pediatric Cardiology
Fellows receive formal didactic instruction throughout the three years of training. A core-curriculum has been developed, focusing on topics essential to pediatric cardiology. A weekly fellows’ conference is dedicated to instruction. All fellows are expected and required to attend.Topics covered include (but are not limited to):
- Cardiovascular physiology
- Cardiac anatomy
- Congenital cardiac lesions and their medical/surgical management
- Electrophysiology
- Echocardiography
- Preventative cardiology
- Transplantation
Further instruction is provided by:
- Weekly cath conference in which the week’s cases are reviewed and discussed
- Dedicated, bi-weekly fellows’ surgical symposium that is directed by the cardiothoracic surgeons
- Bi-weekly pathology conference, in which pathological specimens are reviewed.
Additional conferences and resources include:
- Twice weekly echo conference
- Weekly surgical conference, prepared and presented by the fellows on a rotating basis
- Weekly cardiopulmonary transplant conference
- Monthly combined adult/pediatric cardiology conference in which cases of interest to both audiences are presented and discussed.
- Monthly cardiology/CT surgery morbidity and mortality conference
- A world-renowned Heart Museum which contains over 2,300 specimens representing a wide spectrum of congenital and acquired disease. Pathology conferences are held throughout the year with hands-on opportunity to examine the heart specimens.
