Committed to Education and Research
Part of the Heart Institute's mission is to increase the overall body of knowledge about heart disease in children. Heart Institute physicians maintain educational programs for residents in both clinical cardiology and pediatric cardiothoracic surgery. Additionally, they provide fellowship programs in pediatric cardiology and pediatric cardiothoracic surgery. Students from the University of Pittsburgh and other medical schools share regular clinical rotations with members of the Heart Institute staff.
Recognized nationally and internationally, the Cardiac Dynamics Research Laboratory at Children’s Hospital’s Rangos Research Center was designed to provide an environment in which researchers and clinicians could work side by side to study clinically relevant cardiovascular problems. Each year, in addition to the Heart Institute’s attending staff, pediatric cardiology fellows, master’s and doctoral candidates conduct studies in the cardiac flow dynamics research lab. The work there has gained worldwide respect and recognition in the field of congenital heart disease.
