Family Events
The diagnosis of cancer or a blood disorder brings with it tremendous implications for the patient, the parents and siblings. For the Hematology/Oncology and Blood and Marrow Transplantation staff, dealing with the emotional needs of children and their families is as important as dealing with the physical and medical needs of the patient. To help families cope, every new patient is assigned a psychosocial team that consists of a social worker, a psychologist and a child life specialist. Through regular meetings with the patient and family, the team is able to anticipate potentially stressful situations and to help the family manage them successfully.
Our team is also aware that sometimes the best medicine is to take a break from the medical setting. Annual events have been created with this idea in mind. They include:
