Nomination Criteria for Mermelstein Award
Criteria for the Honoree of the Howard A. Mermelstein, MD, Award for Excellence in Pediatrics
Recipient must:
- Demonstrate a commitment to the betterment of the profession
- Demonstrate a commitment to teaching
- Be loved by his/her patient
- Demonstrate integrity recognized by his/her peers
- Be active in the community
In addition:
- The recipient must have some connection to the Pittsburgh area, although may have since left.
- The award should alternate yearly between community-based physicians and academic institution-based physicians, although not strictly binding. The 2011 award will be given to an academic-based physician.
- If no suitable candidates are identified, committee may suspend the award for that particular year.
