Requirements
Family members do not need any specific experience other than having had a child who was or is cared for at Chidren's Hospital to serve as a member, but the following qualities are important:
- Ability to communicate and work with families and staff whose backgrounds, experience, and styles may be different than yours
- A positive approach and ability to share and see many different points of view
- Good listening skills
- Enthusiasm about the hospital’s mission of excellence in patient care, education, and research
- Ability to share both positive and negative experiences in a constructive way
Commitment required: In general, members can expect to have a minimum of 10 meetings at the hospital each year. Memberships are for either one- or two-year terms, allowing one half of the membership to remain as experienced advisors while offering shorter commitments to accommodate a family’s needs. Nominees who wish to participate with a shorter time commitment may wish to apply for subcommittee activities.
Family Forum members are reimbursed for child care expenses and parking or transportation.
