Requirements

Family members do not need any specific experience other than having had a child who was or is cared for at Chidren's Hospital to serve as a member, but the following qualities are important:

Ability to communicate and work with families and staff whose backgrounds, experience, and styles may be different than yours
A positive approach and ability to share and see many different points of view
Good listening skills
Enthusiasm about the hospital’s mission of excellence in patient care, education, and research
Ability to share both positive and negative experiences in a constructive way

Commitment required: In general, members can expect to have a minimum of 10 meetings at the hospital each year. Memberships are for either one- or two-year terms, allowing one half of the membership to remain as experienced advisors while offering shorter commitments to accommodate a family’s needs. Nominees who wish to participate with a shorter time commitment may wish to apply for subcommittee activities.

Family Forum members are reimbursed for child care expenses and parking or transportation.
