Pediatric Environmental Medicine Center Researchers

The Pediatric Environmental Medicine Center (PEMC) at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC consists of a multidisciplinary team of top pediatric experts. The PEMC is led by Fernando Holguin, MD, MPH,  a pulmonologist and epidemiologist who also serves with the Asthma and Allergic Diseases Research Center at UPMC. Previously Dr. Holguin directed the Asthma Translational Research Program for Emory University and conducted clinical and epidemiological asthma research for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

Through unique collaborations, the PEMC works the University of Pittsburgh Department of Family Medicine, Rutgers University’s Department of Environmental Medicine and with Carnegie Mellon University’s Civil Engineering Department, which provides atmospheric monitoring to identify both outdoor and indoor pollutants that may be triggers to asthma.
