Tumor Treatment with Aflibercept - Phase I

Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Trap in Children with Refractory Solid Tumors

Protocol Description

This Phase I Children's Oncology Group study investigates the drug Aflibercept, a vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) trap as a treatment for cancers that defy other therapies. A VEGF trap blocks the action of development of new blood vessels to the tumor, which can stop tumor growth and the spread of cancer to other parts of the body, possibly resulting in tumor shrinkage. Researchers will investigate optimal dosages and gain a better understanding of side effects, benefits and how the body processes the drug.

Eligibility Criteria

Patients diagnosed with a recurrent or progressive tumor that have been unable to be cured by any known standard treatment will be asked to participate.
Boys: Ages 1 to 21 years
Girls: Ages 1 to 21 years

Requirements
Eligible study participants will be administered VEGF Trap intravenously once every 2 weeks, known as a cycle. Participants may continue treatment for up to 24 months.
Frequency of visits: Every 2 weeks
Duration: Up to 24 months
