TrialNet - Natural History of Type 1 Diabetes
Protocol Description
TrialNet is an international network of centers dedicated to conducting research to prevent Type 1 Diabetes and to study intervention therapies for those with newly diagnosed Type 1 Diabetes. The first study in TrialNet is a Natural History Study to learn more about risk factors associated with the development of Type 1 Diabetes. This study is administered through the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Eligibility Criteria
Subject is between the ages of 1-45 and have a brother, sister, child or parent with Type 1 Diabetes, or subject is between the ages of 1-20 and have a cousin, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, half-sibling or grandparent with Type 1 Diabetes. Note: the relative with diabetes must have developed it before the age of 40 and started taking insulin within a year of getting diabetes. The participants do not have diabetes of any kind.
Requirements
The study requires a blood test or tests by participants.
