Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Program
Description of Services
|
Multidisciplinary Approach
The multidisciplinary center is the only one in the region able to provide comprehensive evaluation and surgical treatment options for children with intractable epilepsy, which is epilepsy that does not improve with medications. All patients undergo a comprehensive evaluation that includes digital monitoring and neuroimaging studies. Specialists in neurology, neurosurgery, neurophysiology, neuroradiology, and neuropsychology work together to determine the best treatment plan for each child, offering a chance for a cure to patients with epilepsy whose seizures cannot be controlled with medication.
Surgical Treatments for Epilepsy
All available surgical treatments for epilepsy are available through the Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Program, including:
- Focal cortical resection
- Lobectomy
- Hemispherectomy
- Corpus callosotomy
- Vagus nerve stimulator implantation
- Brain mapping
Surgical procedures are individualized in order to give each patient the best chance to be seizure-free.
