Pharmacy Department
Description of Services
The Pharmacy Department oversees medication procurement, storage, dispensing, and utilization throughout Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. Staffed by pediatric-trained pharmacists, the Pharmacy may be consulted about medication-related issues 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Pharmacy staff plays an important role in providing drug information to health care professionals.
With the use of dispensing technologies, including online verification of medication orders and automated medication cabinets, the Pharmacy gives patient safety top priority.
The Pharmacy’s clinical team and Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM) service assist the medical and professional staff throughout the institution, including hematology/oncology, adolescent medicine, critical care and transplantation. Clinical Pharmacy staff work to ensure positive clinical outcomes of all drug therapies.
