Volunteer Opportunities
At Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, we believe in the principles and practice of family-centered care, both in medical and non-medical ways. For example, we work to anticipate families’ non-medical needs and to treat others as we would want to be treated in a similar situation. We ask ourselves — if this was my family, how would we want to be treated? What needs would we have? What would we need to know?
As a volunteer at Children’s Hospital, you’ll be a representative of that principle of family-centered care, too. We know that children heal best if they are comfortable, happy and relaxed. It’s not just a spoonful of sugar that helps the medicine go down, but bingo games, arts and crafts, a teddy bear in the corner of the bed, a calming stroll through the halls, and the care and attention of friendly, caring volunteers.
Here in Children’s Volunteer Services Department, we know of countless ways to make a difference in the lives of children and their families. No matter what your talents or how much time you have to give, we can match you up with the kind of volunteer opportunity you will most enjoy. Whichever option you choose, you can be certain that your efforts will make life a little bit easier for a child and his or her family.
