New Class Offered by Children’s Hospital Teaches New and Expectant Parents Tips For Raising “The Happiest Baby on the Block”
Pittsburgh, Pa. -

Parenting experts at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC are offering a new class that teaches new and expectant parents a step-by-step approach to help all infants sleep longer and soothe even the fussiest baby in minutes.
The Happiest Baby Program – available through Children's Community Education program – offers child-rearing tips developed by Harvey Karp, MD, a nationally recognized child development expert and pediatrician. Dr. Karp is the author of The Happiest Baby on the Block and The Happiest Toddler on the Block, two books that have helped hundreds of thousands of parents across the country control their children's crying and tantrums.
"From first-aid and babysitting to positive parenting, Children's offers a wide variety of classes for raising happy and healthy children," said Dayna Jornsay-Hester, Children's Community Education coordinator. "Our new Happiest Baby Program aims to teach parents simple, effective and fun techniques to quickly soothe their babies' cries and help them sleep a little longer."
At the class, the certified Happiest Baby educators will provide hands-on training on topics including the missing fourth trimester (the belief that many babies cry because they are born three months too early), the calming reflex and five simple techniques that activate the calming reflex.
The Happiest Baby classes are available on multiple dates and at multiple Children's locations. The cost for the two-hour class is $40 per couple and includes the Parent Kit, which includes a DVD of Dr. Karp's "The Happiest Baby on the Block: The New Way to Calm Crying and Help Your Baby Sleep Longer," and a Soothing Sounds CD, a $40 retail value.
