Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Hosts First-Ever Child Abuse Conference and Presents Inaugural Award to Sen. Jane Orie

WHAT:
Children's is hosting the first annual Conference on Hope and Healing. The event explores the nature of domestic violence and child abuse and is being sponsored by the Child Advocacy Center at Children's with support from the University of Pittsburgh and the Family Division of the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County. The conference will be held annually in April during National Child Abuse Prevention Month. It is an educational opportunity for social workers, caseworkers, legal advocates, police and others who work in the child welfare system.
As part of this first-ever event, Children's has established the "Champion of Hope and Healing Award" to be presented for outstanding dedication and commitment to the well-being of children. Oxendale will present Sen. Orie with the inaugural award for her efforts on behalf of children from across Pennsylvania.
Sen. Orie has been a strong supporter of laws protecting children and women. She is the chair of the state Senate's Committee on Aging and Youth and the vice chair of the Committee on Public Health and Welfare. Sen. Orie has sponsored legislation involving Jessica's Law, changes to Megan's Law, school violence prevention, domestic violence prevention and civil commitment of sexually violent predators.
