Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Named Among the Top 10 Pediatric Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report for 13 Years
Pittsburgh, Pa. -
July 16, 2003
-
Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh has again been named one of the best pediatric hospitals in the United States by U.S. News & World Report.
This is the 13th year Children’s has been listed in the top 10.
In its July 28, 2003, "America’s Best Hospitals" issue, U.S. News & World Report ranked Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh seventh in pediatrics in the nation. U.S. News ranked 203 top medical centers, winnowed from 6,003 hospitals across the country, in 17 different specialties.
Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is the only hospital in the region to have been ranked among the 10 best hospitals for 13 years. No other hospital in this region has received such consistently high rankings over that time frame. U.S. News began ranking hospitals in 1990.
The ranking is the result of an exclusive survey formulated in conjunction with the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago. The pediatric survey was comprised of 150 board-certified physicians who were asked to name the five hospitals they consider the best in their respective specialties, without considering cost or location.
The 2003 top 10 children’s hospitals are:
- Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
- Children’s Hospital Boston
- Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore
- Children’s Hospital of New York Presbyterian
- Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston
- Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, Cleveland
- Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh
- Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center
- The Children’s Hospital, Denver
- University of California, San Francisco Medical Center
The 2003 rankings will appear in the July 28 issue of U.S. News & World Report, which will be available on newsstands Monday, July 21.
