In National Survey, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Receives More Than 40 Awards for Outstanding Patient Care

Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh recently received more than 40 awards in a national survey measuring patient satisfaction conducted by Professional Research Consultants (PRC), a customer and marketing research firm.

The PRC Patient Perception Awards are given annually to hospitals and physicians who received high marks in patient satisfaction surveys conducted by PRC. This year's awards were based on interviews with patients conducted in 2004. More than 240 hospitals and health care providers who contract PRC's services, including Children's, were included in the survey. Results are based on the percentage of "excellent" responses a hospital or physician receives.

Children's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Intermediate Intensive Care Unit received the Overall Top Performer Pediatrics Award, which is PRC's highest hospital-level honor.

Additionally, the Paul C. Gaffney Diagnostic Referral Service at Children's received the Specialty Care Top Performer Award. Children's oncologist Michael R. Wollman, MD, was named the Pediatrics Top Performer in the physician-level awards.

"We have some of the most talented and dedicated health care professionals in the world at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh," said Roger A. Oxendale, president and CEO of Children's. "These awards are a testament to their abilities and hard work for our young patients."

Several other departments at Children's received "5-Star" awards for scoring in the top 10 percent of hospitals in the survey or "4-Star" awards for scoring in the top 25 percent. These departments include the Inpatient Unit, the Emergency Department, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, the Hematology/Oncology Inpatient Unit and Outpatient Surgery.
