Kohl's Supports Key Injury Prevention Initiatives to Help Keep Children Safe
Kohl's has contributed more than $745,000 to support Children's
Pittsburgh, Pa. -

Through a generous donation from Kohl's, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh's injury prevention programs will help keep kids out of the emergency room.
Kohl's representatives will present Children's pediatric surgeon Edward Barksdale Jr., MD, with a check for $216,436 as part of the Kohl's Cares for Kids® program and the company's ongoing commitment to the Pittsburgh area.
The check will be presented promptly at 4 p.m. at a car seat safety checkpoint at Children's South, in Bethel Park.
"Through generous donations from organizations and companies like Kohl's, Children's Hospital can continue to care for kids both medically, and through injury prevention programs that help keep our families safe," said Roger Oxendale, President and CEO of Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
The donations are part of a comprehensive effort to promote children's health and educational opportunities through the ongoing Kohl's Cares for Kids® campaign. Funds presented to the hospital were raised through the sale of seasonal gift items.
"Kohl's introduced the Kohl's Cares for Kids? program to promote children's health and educational opportunities, and is committed to playing an active role in the communities we serve," said Julie Gardner, senior vice president of marketing for Kohl's Department Stores. "We're proud of the partnerships we've created with children's hospitals across the country, and are excited to join Children's in this endeavor."
Kohl's donation will help to support various programs at the hospital including Children's Free Care Fund and several injury prevention initiatives including Think First for Kids, Reality Education for Drivers, and child passenger safety and bicycle safety programs to name a few.
"Whether it's a painful fall that results in broken bones or an accidental poisoning from a household cleaning product, few children manage to get through childhood without an injury that could have been prevented," said Dr. Barksdale. The Benedum Pediatric Trauma Center at Children's strives to educate parents on how to help ensure the best possible outcome during a child's emergency or trauma situation, and prevent injuries from occurring in the first place.
