Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC Launches Pediatric Sports Medicine Program

Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC has recruited a new physician to lead its pediatric sports medicine program. Rajat Jain, M.D. will specialize in treating non-surgical fractures, strains and joint and muscle pain in children and teens.

While Dr. Jain will specialize in treating young athletes, his services will be available to all pediatric patients.

“Whether a child plays back yard kickball or is on a high school football team, Children’s Sports Medicine can treat their sports injuries with the same professional care you’ve come to expect from Children's Hospital,” said Dr. Jain, lead physician for Children’s Sports Medicine. “Our goal is to ensure all children receive proper treatment for their sports injury and help to speed recovery so they can safely return to their favorite activity.”

Dr. Jain is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and is a board-certified physician specializing in pediatrics and internal medicine. He has trained alongside the world-class physicians at UPMC Sports Medicine and has obtained a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. Dr. Jain also has served as an assistant team physician for Norwin School District.

Working with Dr. Jain will be Jan Grudziak, M.D., Ph.D., medical director for Sports Medicine. Dr. Grudziak also is an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon at Children’s Hospital’s Division of Pediatric Orthopaedics.

Treatment at Children’s Sports Medicine will include:

  • Muscle strains
  • Soft tissue injuries (ankle, wrist, etc.)
  • Joint injuries and injections
  • Spondylolysis
  • SI Joint Dysfunction
  • Chronic pain (back, shoulder, etc.)
  • Minor fractures
