Media Advisory: Unlocking the World of Sound and Speech: A Celebration of the Cochlear Implant

Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC will host “Unlocking the World of Sound and Speech: A Celebration of the Cochlear Implant.”
 
The event features Professor Jim Patrick, co-creator of the world’s first multi-channel cochlear implant and senior vice president and chief scientist for Cochlear Limited.
 
Professor Patrick will provide a historical perspective on the development of the cochlear implant for an audience of cochlear implant recipients, deaf or hard-of-hearing children, adults, parents, caregivers, teachers of the deaf, educational administrators, and others.

6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26

Why            
Professor Patrick is visiting Children’s Hospital through a partnership with DePaul School for Hearing and Speech. DePaul is organizing a series of educational and outreach events with Professor Patrick titled “Hearing Wonders – Speaking Miracles: Celebrating the Cochlear Implant.” The events are being held throughout Pittsburgh from Oct. 26 to 29.
