Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and Edgar Snyder Help Area Middle Schoolers Tune Out Drugs and Alcohol With Road Radio
Pittsburgh, Pa. -
November 3, 2005
-
WHO: More than 350 middle school students from East Junior High School in the Woodland Hills School District
WHAT: The students will participate in Road Radio USA, an award-winning program geared toward preventing underage drinking and other destructive behaviors.
Road Radio is a simulated "live radio broadcast at the school," with host Jim Mothersbaugh, founder of Road Radio and the survivor of an alcohol-related crash. Mothersbaugh incorporates music, lights, sounds and his own personal account into a multimedia educational assembly that often leaves students riveted. Students and teachers are active participants in the "broadcast."
The assembly addresses the consequences of destructive behaviors and teens' misconceptions about the use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs. Questions are posed to Mothersbaugh from students who "call in" to the radio program.
WHY: Because the attorneys and staff at Edgar Snyder & Associates represent injured people and see first-hand the devastation that alcohol can cause, the law firm has partnered with Children's to sponsor Road Radio USA. Their support will spread the prevention message to 25 middle schools in western Pennsylvania during the 2005-06 school year.
Mothersbaugh was a high school senior when he and three friends were involved in an alcohol-related crash. The crash killed one of his friends and left Mothersbaugh in a coma and paralyzed. He has since recovered, but continues to deal with the consequences of his traumatic brain injury.
WHEN: Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, 1:30 - 2:30 p.m.
WHERE: East Junior High School, Woodland Hills School District, 126 Monroeville Ave, Turtle Creek, PA, 15145
Editor's Note: Mothersbaugh, Attorney Edgar Snyder and representatives from Children's and East Junior High School are available for interviews following the program.
