Shadyside Shines This Holiday Season With Its "Be a Star in a Child's Life" Effort in Support of Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh

Holiday Treasure Chest Raffle is the Highlight of the Season in Shadyside.

The Shadyside Chamber of Commerce is kicking off the centerpiece to its holiday season campaign to raise money for the Free Care Fund at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Shadyside's "Be a Star in a Child's Life" Holiday Treasure Chest Raffle runs from Friday, Nov. 18 to Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005. All net proceeds from the sale of the raffle tickets to win one of 14 treasure chests filled with items from Shadyside retailers will benefit Children's Free Care Fund. Other events happening in Shadyside throughout the months of November and December will also benefit the Free Care Fund. The Free Care Fund ensures that all children receive medical care regardless of a family's ability to pay. Children's provided more than $26 million in free care in fiscal year 2004.

About Shadyside's Holiday Treasure Chest Raffle:

  • 14 custom-designed wooden chests filled by participating retailers with at least $750 in merchandise per chest. Winners will be chosen by random drawing.
  • Tickets are one for $10 and three for $25.

Shadyside's additional holiday fund-raising events:

  • Max & Erma's Restaurant will donate 20 percent of its total sales on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, and Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, to Children's Free Care Fund. Patrons will need to present certificates that are available on the  Web site.
  • Free horse-drawn carriage rides will be available every Wednesday and Saturday during the month of December. A donation is requested.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, along with strolling carolers, will be available to pose for photos with children for a donation. The photos will be given in a Children's gingerbread frame.
