Kohl’s has contributed more than $1 million in support of key programs at Children’s Hospital

A 10-year partnership between Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and the Kohl’s Cares for Kids® Program is helping make children and families from the tristate region safer and giving them access to the best medical care possible.
Representatives from Kohl’s will present Children’s Hospital officials with a donation of nearly $200,000 on Wednesday, Dec. 17. The presentation will be made during Children’s 55th Annual Free Care Friends benefit show.
“Because of the generosity of Kohl’s, its employees and its customers, Children’s Hospital is able to offer educational programs that help prevent injuries and to offer kids access to world-class medical care through its Free Care Fund,” said Roger A. Oxendale, president of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation and CEO of Children’s Hospital. “Kohl’s has demonstrated a strong commitment to the Pittsburgh area for the last decade, and we look forward to continuing our partnership.”
Since the inception of the partnership in 1998, Kohl’s has donated more than $1.13 million to Children’s Hospital. The donations have helped support the hospital’s Free Care Fund and several injury prevention initiatives including Think First for Kids, Reality Education for Drivers as well as child passenger safety and bicycle safety programs.
The donations are part of a comprehensive effort to promote children’s health and educational opportunities through the ongoing Kohl’s Cares for Kids® campaign. Funds presented to Children’s Hospital are raised through the sale of seasonal gift items.
“Kohl’s is committed to playing an active role in promoting children’s health and educational opportunities in communities throughout Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the United States,” said Gary Wingert, vice president/district manager for Kohl’s Department Stores. “We’re proud to partner with Children’s Hospital in its efforts to educate kids and teach them lifelong lessons that will help keep them out of the emergency department.”
Based in Menomonee Falls, Wis., Kohl’s is a family-focused, value-oriented specialty department store offering moderately priced national brand apparel, shoes, accessories and home products. The company currently operates 640 stores in 40 states. For a list of store locations, or for additional information, visit Kohl’s Web site at www.kohls.com.
