For Clinicians
Allergy & Immunology Fellowship
Overview
Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC’s Division of Allergy and Immunology offers a two to three year ACGME accredited training program. The program currently allows for two fellows per year: one from pediatrics and the other with a background in internal medicine. The main goal of the program is to provide a broad training experience that prepares physicians to enter academics as either clinician/educators or researchers.
The program is based at the only pediatric hospital in the region, and consequently trainees are exposed to a wide range of both allergic and immunologic disease states in children. The adult experience is obtained at the University Hospital which also provides a wide variety of clinical cases in adult patients. One of the strengths of the program is a broad clinical experience in pediatric and adult clinical care, inpatient and outpatient cases, and both allergic and immunologic disease states.
The research experience is obtained in NIH funded laboratories. Laboratory opportunities exist throughout the university. Each fellow has a mentoring committee to facilitate the selection and progress of research projects. The goal is to both present a research project at a national meeting and to prepare a manuscript for publication in a peer-reviewed journal by the completion of the training period.
