Impact of Anticoagulation on the Short Term Outcome in a Population of Neonates with Cerebral Sinovenous Thrombosis
Protocol Description
This retrospective medical-record review aggregates and analyzes existing de-identified data about neonatal patients diagnosed with and treated for cerebral sinovenous thrombosis (CSVT), a clot that develops in a vein near the brain with the potential to cause a stroke or brain hemorrhage. Data comparing outcomes for neonates treated with supportive therapy to those given anticoagulation medication with heparin will be collected and compared. Given the life-threatening nature of CSVT in neonates, this study will help in developing standardized guidelines for the evaluation and treatment of neonatal CSVT.
Eligibility Criteria
The study will focus on de-identified records of neonates that were diagnosed and treated for CSVT at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC between January 2003 and August 2008, and as a retrospective review, enrollment is not required.
Boys: Up to 28 days old
