Community Outreach

Community Outreach at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh promotes the health and well-being of children and communities – from providing early literacy support to helping a father find a home for his family. Our outreach services span the region and include a special partnership with a health care facility in Kenya.

Child Advocacy Center

Children's Child Advocacy Center provides services to protect children and strengthen families. The focus of the center is to recognize and document child abuse while remaining a child-friendly and family-friendly resource. The staff is focused on serving as all-encompassing advocates of child safety, health, and well-being. The center provides comprehensive forensic evaluations as well as medical and psychosocial services for children and adolescents who may be victims of physical or sexual abuse or neglect. The center also offers comprehensive medical care and case management for children who are in foster care, kinship care or who have been in the foster care system and have been reunited with their biological parents.

Community Education Program

Community education classes are held throughout the Pittsburgh area to educate parents and their children about pediatric health concerns, injury prevention, child development issues and parenting. Classes are offered at Children’s Community Pediatrics practices, at Children's neighborhood locations, and at Family Care Connection Centers.

Family Care Connection Centers

Children's Family Care Connection Centers offer a wide range of support services for at-risk families to ensure that parents and children receive the social services and support they need in developing healthy lifestyles and in securing access to health care. Centers are located in Braddock, Rankin, Turtle Creek, Penn Hills, Lawrenceville and Mt. Oliver.

Injury Prevention

The vision of Children’s Injury Prevention Program is to reduce the occurrence, severity, and consequences of injuries and accidents for children and to provide education, research and advocacy for safer communities.
