The Marjory K. Harmer Memorial Endowed Chair in Pediatric Pathology

Dr. Miguel Reyes-Múgica, born and educated in México, accepted the position of Chief of Pathology at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC in July of 2008, and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Pathology, at the Department of Pathology, UPMC. Since 2001, Dr. Reyes-Múgica is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal Pediatric and Developmental Pathology, the leading journal in the field, and the official voice of the Society for Pediatric Pathology, and the Paediatric Pathology Society.

Dr. Reyes’ research activities are wide and cover a large extent of the general field of Pediatric Pathology. He has concentrated his efforts in the area of pediatric neoplasia and developmental disorders, studying brain tumors and neural crest disorders, such as neuroblastoma, Hirschsprung disease, and neurocutaneous melanocytosis (NCM). His efforts have been sponsored and funded by the organization Nevus Outreach, Inc. (NOI), formed by patients and families with children afflicted by GPN and NCM. Dr. Reyes is part of the Scientific Advisory Board of NOI. (Read more about Dr. Reyes’ research areas of interest).

New avenues of research interest include the early pathology of cancer predisposition syndromes. Dr. Reyes is interested in seemingly trivial lesions that may foretell an increased cancer predisposition in the pediatric patient. In addition, the pathology of pediatric testicular lesions has become a new field for his investigative efforts.
