Our Services
Hospital Volunteer Program
We have more than 50 different hospital assignments that provide volunteers with activities ranging from direct interaction with children, such as reading a book or playing a game, to helping families find their way around the facility, answering general questions and supporting various business offices.
All hospital volunteers are carefully screened, trained, given appropriate assignments and required to follow hospital policies and procedures. For volunteers over the age of 18, the screening process includes a criminal background check, child abuse clearances, health and immunization screening, an interview and orientation training. We take the time to do it right in order to ensure the safety and well-being of patients and families. The screening and training process also gives the volunteer the confidence needed for a successful experience.
Individual Volunteer Assignments
A variety of hospital volunteer assignments are available. A specific assignment will be determined based on your interests, availability, application status, a personal interview and our most pressing needs at the time of your interview. Typically, hospital assignments can be divided into three categories:
- Direct Care – These assignments offer direct interaction with our patients and families. Assignments may include play activities, relieving caregivers, providing companionship and various helpful services and creating a link to hospital resources.
- Indirect Care – These assignments provide wonderful support to children, their families and our professional staff. Assignments may include greeting and escorting visitors, assisting departments with mailings and communications.
- Career Development – Gain valuable experience in fields as diverse as business, pharmacy, occupational/physical therapy and dentistry. Get the benefits of first-hand observation of hospital professionals working in these areas.
