What is a Job Shadow?

A Job Shadow is an unpaid experience that allows a student to spend a short amount of time, generally less than three days, observing a Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC professional on the job. The student cannot perform work of any kind, including patient care, during this experience, but can broaden his or her understanding of a particular career through observation.

How do I apply for a Job Shadow?

If you are interested in a job shadow, please fill out the Shadow Intake Sheet (PDF) and e-mail it to extern-shadow@chp.edu. A Human Resources representative will contact a unit representative to determine if he or she is able to accommodate your shadow request. Please be advised that not all shadow requests will be granted.
