Medical Student Education Program
The Department of Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC offers comprehensive pediatric training for medical students from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Visiting students may apply in their fourth year only.
The medical student education program at Children’s Hospital includes the following curriculum:
Years 1 and 2 – Standard pediatric courses such as communicating with parents, history taking and introduction to the physical exam.
Year 3 – Required clerkships in inpatient pediatric medicine (PIMC) and ambulatory pediatric medicine (CAMC).
Year 4 – Electives in primary care pediatrics and a wide range of pediatric subspecialties, such as pediatric cardiology, infectious diseases, and emergency medicine. An acting internship in inpatient pediatrics is also in the curriculum. Senior electives are open to all fourth year medical students, including visiting students.
