Transplant Providers and Staff

In May 1981, a team of surgeons at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh transplanted a liver into a 2-year-old boy from Tennessee. Three decades later, Children’s has performed more than 3,200 pediatric transplants, including blood and marrow, heart, heart/lung, kidney, intestine, small bowel, liver, liver/small bowel, liver/kidney, single-lung, double-lung, pancreas, and multiple-organ transplants.

Through this extensive experience and a dedication to research and innovation, transplant surgeons and teams at Children’s Hospital have significantly improved surgical techniques, treatment, and patient survival.

Highly educated clinical transplant nurse specialists also participate as key members of the pediatric transplant team and manage all aspects of patient care on an individual basis. Nurse specialists maintain close, lifetime relationships with patients, families and referring pediatricians.
