Meet Our Neighborhoods

Lawrenceville

Lawrenceville is one of Pittsburgh’s oldest neighborhoods, and in the last decade it has become one of Pittsburgh’s most innovative and vibrant areas. An influx of art studios, galleries, restaurants and new residents is balanced by the neighborhood’s enduring community and ethnic traditions. Lawrenceville has become a center for architectural renovation and entrepreneurial energy.

Bloomfield

Bloomfield, Pittsburgh’s Little Italy, is proud of its heritage, but the neighborhood also is diverse in its residents and businesses. Even so, if you are looking for food, it is hard to beat Bloomfield’s lineup of top-notch (and reasonably priced) Italian restaurants. The heart of the Bloomfield business district on Liberty Avenue is only a short walk from the new hospital. Don’t miss Little Italy Days in September.

Garfield

Long one of Pittsburgh’s most ethnically diverse neighborhoods, Garfield’s homeowners and businesses have waged a stubborn and increasingly successful campaign to revive the neighborhood's residential and business areas. On the hill above the Penn Avenue business district, brick homes boast great Pittsburgh views.

Friendship

A close neighbor to the new Children’s Hospital campus, Friendship is one of Pittsburgh’s hidden and historic residential gems, with spacious brick homes and big lawns on leafy streets. One neighborhood architectural landmark is the Friendship Avenue School, now home to the Pittsburgh Public Schools’ magnet Montessori school.

East Liberty

The historic East Liberty neighborhood is fast becoming one of Pittsburgh’s major food centers, with Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and a growing slew of unique ethnic restaurants. East Liberty is only a short drive down Penn Avenue from the new campus, along the major access route to the hospital from the east of Pittsburgh.
