Having heart disease can promote opportunities for your child and family to begin new relationships and develop special interests. The Heart Center staff has created Heart-to-Heart (H-to-H) and Heart Camp to aid with this.

Heart-to-Heart, a parent support group, was organized in 1972. It provides a forum for parents to meet and assist each other. Members of the group become active with parents whose child has been diagnosed recently. They offer new parents special compassion because they have had similar experiences.

Together, the Heart Center and corporate sponsors fund Heart Camp. It has become an annual fun-filled event for children and adolescents with heart disease. Campers range in age from 8-16. Those older than 16 serve as counselors. Meaningful friendships and an increasing sense of independence and self-esteem are just some of the benefits of camp. Heart Center staff can help you become involved in these groups.
