Biography Summary
Dr. Painter was chief of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC Division of Child Neurology for many years and now leads the Neonatal Neurology program in the division, where he pioneers innovative care for babies with neurological disease, runs an active research program, educates residents and faculty in all specialties that deal with fetuses and infants, sees neonates at all the NICUs in Pittsburgh, does consults in fetal neurology, and has a neonatal neurology follow-up clinic. He lectures at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he is a research and career advisor.
Internationally known for his work on seizures in newborn babies, Dr. Painter is a past president of several national neurology associations including the Child Neurology Society, Professors of Child Neurology, and Child Neurology Foundation. Dr. Painter is a founder of the Neurodevelopmental Disabilities subspecialty and has served on leadership committees of the Child Neurology Society, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, American Board of Pediatrics, and American Academy of Neurology.
