Ricardo L. Carrau, MD, FACS, is a professor in the departments of Otolaryngology and Neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is medical director of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Swallowing Disorders Center and the director of the Maxillofacial Trauma Service. Dr. Carrau co-authored the books Comprehensive Management of Swallowing Disorders and Operative Otolaryngology. In addition, he has contributed chapters to numerous texts in otolaryngology and is the senior author of multiple peer-reviewed papers which address the diagnosis and treatment of swallowing disorders.
