Severe Asthma Research Program: Inflammation, Myofibroblasts and Loss of Elastic Recoil in Severe Asthma
Protocol Description
This multi-center study uses extensive testing to develop a more complete understanding and characterization of asthma and to determine why some asthmatics do not respond to current asthma medications.
Eligibility Criteria
Boys and girls, ages 6 to 17, with mild to moderate and severe asthma are eligible to participate.
Boys: Ages 6 to 17
Girls: Ages 6 to 17
Requirements
Through a series of 3 visits, asthmatic children will be tested at the Pediatric Clinical Translational Research Center and the Pulmonary Function Laboratory of Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. Tests will include questionnaires about the child’s health, allergy tests, breathing tests, urine collection and blood draws in the first “qualifying” visit. Subsequent visits will involve more extensive pulmonary function testing.
