Physician Profile

Diana A. Shellmer, PhD, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, is the Attending Pediatric Psychologist for the Hillman Center for Pediatric Transplantation at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She came to Pittsburgh in August 2006, bringing a strong background in both research and clinical work with pediatric transplant populations.

Dr. Shellmer came from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where she completed her internship and fellowship work within the Adherence Program under the Division of Nephrology and the Department of Psychology. She earned her doctoral degree in psychology from the George Washington University in 2005. She completed a Master's in Psychology at the George Washington University (2001), and completed her B.A. degree in Psychology at the University of Maryland College Park (1995).

At Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Dr. Shellmer is developing the Behavioral Health Service for the Hillman Center for Pediatric Transplantation serving children and families pre- and post-small bowel, liver, heart, and lung transplantation. Dr. Shellmer is also developing a line of research with these transplant populations. Her areas of expertise include adherence to medical regimen, adjustment and psychosocial functioning of transplant populations, and racial and ethnic differences in chronic illness pediatric populations.

Dr. Shellmer is a licensed clinical psychologist with a specialization in pediatric psychology. Her professional memberships include the American Psychological Association, Society of Pediatric Psychology, Pennsylvania Psychological Association, and the International Pediatric Transplant Association. She was a student editor of the Cultural Diversity & Ethnic Minority Psychology Journal, and is and ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Family Psychology and the Journal of Pediatric Psychology.
