DeWard, Stephanie, MS, CGC

Stephanie DeWard, MS, CGC, joined the Division of Medical Genetics at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC in July 2010. She completed undergraduate work at Calvin College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology. Her Master of Science in Human Genetics and Genetic Counseling is from the University of Michigan.

Before coming to the Children’s Hospital, she worked as a pediatric genetic counselor at Michigan State University from 2006 to 2010. She coordinated monthly genetics clinics in underserved areas and provided genetic counseling in the Cystic Fibrosis Clinic. She served as a liaison for the Molecular Diagnostic and Prenatal Screening Laboratories, where she developed patient and physician educational materials about screening and testing options.

Stephanie works with the physicians of the Division of Medical Genetics to coordinate several clinical trials of new therapies for patients with genetic conditions. In addition, her clinical interests include chromosome microarray, neurofibromatosis, and cystic fibrosis. She is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling and is a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors, where she is involved as a mentor of new Genetic Counselors.
