Stroke Study and Database
Institutional and International Pediatric Stroke Study and Database
Protocol Description
This study creates a database of medical information about pediatric stoke patients that will aid in understanding what affects the recovery of a child. Strokes in children have different causes than adult strokes, and little is known about the factors that affect the recovery of a child after a stroke. Researchers believe that more information about predictive factors will lead to new and better treatments to improve recovery in children.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible candidates include both boys and girls who recently suffered a stroke and are receiving care through the physicians in the Division of Child Neurology.
Boys: Birth to age 18
Girls: Birth to age 18
Requirements
Identifiable past, current and future medical records related to the stroke diagnosis will become part of the database. Additionally, participants will be measured using special surveys, including the Pediatric National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale, the Pediatric Stroke Outcome Measure and the International Pediatric Stroke Study Recovery and Recurrence Questionnaires.
