Our Services

Heart Institute

Every year, referring physicians and families of more than 17,000 patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) choose the Heart Institute at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC when they need the most advanced, experienced, and comprehensive cardiac care available. Here, physicians and staff work with patients and their families toward the common goal of helping children, teens and adults with CHD live their lives to the fullest.

Additionally, the Heart Institute ranks as the top pediatric cardiovascular surgery program in the country with the lowest overall four-year surgical mortality rate among all medium- and high-volume programs with a rate of 1.1%, according to the latest data compiled by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (2008-2012). Nationally, the average mortality rate for all pediatric cardiovascular programs was 3.5% during the same reporting period.
