Family Amenities and Overnight Accommodations

Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC is a benchmark for pediatric quality care. In line with our core value of putting patients and families first, the majority of our patient rooms provide overnight, bedside accommodations for parents to stay with their child. We encourage parents when possible to stay with their child and participate in care and care planning with the health care team.

Inpatient Acute Care
Each of our acute care rooms provides accommodations for two adults to stay with their child.

Critical Care
Critical care units provide one sleep space for a parent, guardian or designee at the bedside.

While we do not permit siblings or other children to stay the night in the hospital, the following accommodations are available to meet your family’s short-term and long-term needs.

Ronald McDonald House (RMHC) is connected to the hospital by an enclosed pedestrian bridge and provides 60 private apartments with the amenities of home, including equipped kitchens, flat screen televisions, laundry facilities, and internet access. Apartments accommodate a maximum of four guests.

Eligibility: Families who live more than 40 miles from the hospital with a child under 22 years of age are eligible for housing at RMHC while their child is an active patient receiving medical care.

Cost: $15/night (financial aid available)

Apply: RMHC does not reserve rooms. Rooms are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, daily. To submit a housing request, contact RMHC at 412-362-3400.

The four Family Houses provide comfortable, affordable accommodations for families whose loved one is under active treatment in a local hospital or health care facility. All rooms include a private bath and access to on-site laundry facilities, communal kitchens, dining areas, and fitness facilities. Family Houses are conveniently located on the bus line to Children’s Hospital.

Eligibility: No age or distance requirements apply. Families must be accompanying a patient who is actively receiving care through a local hospital facility.

Cost: Family House rooms cost $50 to $60 per night (financial aid available); depending on the size of the room (five person suites cost $60.00 per night).
