About Children's
2007 Annual Report
Letter From the President
Dear Friends,
Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC is a special — and very extended — family. It includes the children we treat — and also includes the children whose lives we strive to improve through research, children we will never see. And it includes parents, siblings and other relatives.
Family is at the center of our mission of improving the health and well-being of all children through excellence in patient care, teaching and research. I hope this Annual Report gives you a glimpse of how we fulfill that mission.
Children’s team supports that family. We try here to show you only a few aspects of the work of the hospital. Our nurses, doctors, researchers, technicians, environmental workers, administrators and a dozen other jobs — ask themselves every day: "How does my role contribute to the well-being of families and children?"
We highlight our never-ending search for medical knowledge through our impressive track record in research and our innovative nurse education programs. We look at our family-centered rounds initiative, which welcomes parents as partners in their children's medical treatment.
This report also gives a snapshot of Children's fiscally sound management of the financial resources that support our mission.
At Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, we understand every day that our mission of caring for children is one of the important jobs in the world — and one of the most gratifying.
Sincerely,
Roger A. Oxendale
President and CEO
