Application Process
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. The first step in pursuing a volunteer assignment is to submit an online application and two letters of reference.
NOTE: Volunteers are required to be 18 years or older. Teens (ages 14-17) may only volunteer in the Teen Volunteer Summer Program, which runs from June-August each year. We do not accept volunteers under the age of 14.
To apply, please complete the following:
- Online application
- Two online letters of reference
These may be personal or professional references. References from relatives are not accepted. Please direct your references to the link above.
You will be contacted for an interview when there are openings available. Please note that there are limited evening and weekend slots at this time. During the in-person interview, we will discuss your availability and interests, the clearance process, and possible assignments. While many of our volunteer positions involve direct interaction with hospitalized children and their families, we also have volunteers who focus on special events, clerical duties, and hospitality.
All Children's Hospital volunteers are required to complete the following before being permitted to volunteer. These will be discussed at the interview:
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance (Act 33)
- Criminal Background Check (Act 34)
- FBI Fingerprinting Clearance (Act 73)
- PPD Skin Test (test for tuberculosis)
- Volunteer Orientation
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our office at 412-692-5185 or chpvolunteer@chp.edu. We look forward to meeting you!
