Corporate and Community Volunteer Program
Some members of organizations and employees of businesses prefer to volunteer as a group rather than individually. We welcome that kind of involvement and will work with you to make it an appropriate and meaningful experience. A Children’s Hospital employee is assigned to work actively on all such group projects, and the thorough training of corporate and group volunteers helps assure that their efforts will meet with success.
We want to make certain that all of your members or employees are able to participate in some way in a project that fits in with your interests and vision.
Group Volunteer Opportunities
Share one assignment. Volunteers can work in pairs or small groups on a schedule that meets your needs and ours. For example, the group can choose a weekly or a monthly activity, and then each member may need to volunteer just once a month or once every two months, depending on the number of people involved. These assignments may include:
- Toy and book cleaning
- Comfort Carts
- Adopt-a-Waiting Room
- Traveling Book Carts
Host a special event or activity. We can help you identify a scheduled special event for your group to host. This could be a one-time special event or an activity that is scheduled monthly, seasonally or annually. As many of these activities typically have expenses associated with them, we frequently request that groups cover the costs associated with the events or activities. We schedule many of our special events during the evening or weekends, as those are times when entire families are more likely to participate.
Examples of events or activities available to host:
- Patient and Family BINGO
- Family Game Afternoon
- Themed Events (seasonal or holiday-themed events)
- Coffee House (our only event exclusively offered to grown-ups)
- Creative Arts activities (performances, craft related activities, etc.)
- Special activities exclusively for teens (Spa Nights, Teen BINGO, etc.)
Throughout the year, we receive many requests from groups interested in organizing or participating in activities with patients and families at the hospital. Successful group activities and projects frequently require at least a 6 to 8 week planning period. Therefore we are not always able to accommodate all requests, and especially those on short notice. Interested groups should contact a Volunteer Coordinator to initiate a group project.
We prioritize all volunteer applications and requests based on our needs to provide services that are most critical to serving the needs and assisting our patients and their families. If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact the Volunteer Services office.
