Fellowship Programs

Dear Fellow Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the pediatric subspecialty training programs of the Department of Pediatrics, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. We consider subspecialty fellowship training one of the core missions of the institution and you'll see that there are a number of wonderful programs here.

Each program enjoys a long, rich history, an excellent reputation, outstanding research opportunities and a premiere living location. Along with the academic leaders of our department, I invite you to explore our website and learn more about our fellowship programs and we hope you will consider applying to join our exceptional team.

Excellent Reputation

Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh enjoys an excellent reputation for patient care and postgraduate teaching in a variety of disciplines that extend beyond pediatrics. Its research program also continues to grow. The program is ranked ninth among all independent children’s hospitals and pediatric departments for the amount of funding it receives from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Outstanding Research Opportunities

Children's Hospital's research program has grown dramatically in the last five years with more than a three-fold expansion of its NIH funding portfolio. Each of our fellowship programs has protected time for trainees to engage in research and outstanding research mentors guide trainees and prepare them for academic careers. The department now has eight NIH-funded and two HRSA-funded institutional fellowship training grants to support the research activities of the fellows and three K12 awards to support research careers for transition from fellowship to faculty positions.

Premier Living Location

Pittsburgh itself is a city rich in culture and ethnicity. Recreational and sporting activities and facilities are abundant. From the Super Bowl Champion Steelers to a world-class symphony to magnificent turn-of-the-century architecture, Pittsburgh offers extraordinary amenities in a hometown environment.
